This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to extend own expertise in a specialised art form in order to develop a cohesive body of professional work for the public domain. It involves self-directed research and the independent, highly developed use of specialised materials, processes and techniques.

It applies to individuals who work as creative practitioners, producing a professional standard of work that demonstrates a mature engagement with their chosen art form. The unit may be applied to any art form.

Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline the sources of ideas and research opportunities for professional artists in a specialised area of creative work

summarise the various influences on chosen area of work in historical and contemporary contexts

describe the requirements of a resource management system relevant to the chosen art form

explain intellectual property considerations and how they relate to collaborating with others about ideas and research associated with artistic professional practice

outline sustainability issues associated with the tools and materials used in the chosen art form

summarise work health and safety procedures in relation to chosen art form.


Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

suitable work space

tools, equipment and materials for the production of work.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
